Blogs businesses should be writing to build trust with your customers

If you’re doing business online then you should be providing consistent, free, and helpful content to your customers to build trust with them. And no, I am not talking about social media content. You need to be creating blogs that go on your business’s home that will convert readers into lifelong fans!

Blogs aren’t just for traditional bloggers anymore!

Did you know that people are more likely to purchase from you the more they visit your site? It’s extremely unlikely that a visitor will purchase from you or hire you the first time they go to your website. The first few times they go to your website will be to see what you offer, and learn more about your business to see if it’s worth spending their money. Your job as a business owner selling online is to tell them why your products, and your business is worth spending their money on. You need to create the same experience they would get if they walked into your store! Blogs are the perfect way to invite someone to your website, tell them more about specific products, and show them where to get them!

Think of it this way: everyone likes to get something for free and wants opportunities to learn about products before they commit to buying them, and this is true of your online customers. It can be difficult for online businesses to create top-notch customer service online because people can’t try or even feel the product without purchasing it first. Additionally, they can’t experience your customer service in person like a brick-and-mortar store can, so you have to give them your stunning customer service through the information that you provide to them on your website. You have to give your audience a deep dive into your products, earn their trust by teaching them new ways to use your products, and tell them stories about you and the business.

Enough of the why, let’s talk about the how.

Check out the blog examples below that will help you build trust with your customers.

Tell people your story

First-time visitors want to know why you started your business, and what you’ve learned since first starting – this includes the celebrations and the failures! They also want to know your biggest dream for the brand! Letting people into your story and inviting them to be part of your success will make them feel connected to you, and they will be more likely to make a purchase.

People support people – not businesses.

Here are some key elements to include when telling your story:

  • How has your business changed your life, and the lives of your customers?
  • What has been the greatest challenge you’ve overcome, or are still working to overcome?
  • What is your biggest dream for the business? Open a brick and mortar? Create your own brand label? Etc.

P.S If your story is long, then consider breaking the blogs up into smaller posts and make each bullet point its own small post. People don’t want to read an entire book. Remember more is less sometimes.

Be sure to end this blog with a call to action that invites the reader into the story by purchasing a product to support your dream, etc. Tell the reader what they should do after reading your blog.

Be transparent with your readers

Consumers are no longer blindly purchasing clothes, food, or houseware without asking a few questions about where the products were made, sourced, and who made them. Ethical shopping is HUGE, as it should be, and people want to know more about what they are buying. Be honest with your customers about how you make your products, what kind of material you use, and the type of labor you hire.

Of course, if ethical sourcing, labor, etc. isn’t part of your business plan then don’t write this kind of blog. Although, I would urge you to consider switching up how you’re doing business. *Me trying to withhold a major rant about how unethical sourcing, production, and labor contribute to global trafficking*

Another way you can create transparency is by talking about how long it takes you to make each item. Or, how long it takes to create a new collection. Take your readers through the process (in an exciting way via storytelling) and let them see the heart and soul that it takes to create the perfect product for your customers.

Bestsellers

What are your most popular products? Tell the readers about the top 3 products of the year, or each season and tell them why people love them. Again, use the power of story telling and copywriting to paint a picture of their life that includes your product, and then be clear about what problem in their life it will solve. Don’t make something up – be honest, so that readers will genuinely want to purchase your product. If they feel like you’re scamming them then they won’t buy it. And, if you trick someone into making a purchase that wasn’t right for them then they won’t come back. You’re writing these blogs to connect with your target audience, and genuinely compel them to make a purchase. Blogs are your virtual customer service – not gimmicky clickbait.

Paint a picture for the reader including these elements:

  • Present a problem that your reader is likely facing, and how your product will solve it.
  • What is the purpose of the product (this is where the benefit to the customer comes in, and you tell them how it will make their life easier)
  • Include testimonials and ratings of these products – people looooveee social proof
  • Make sure you talk about what the product feels like, smells like, tastes like (if applicable), and options to choose from.

The goal of telling readers about your bestsellers is to break down the virtual barrier and give the reader as close to a real-life experience as possible. This is done by great storytelling, descriptive explanations, other people’s experiences, and great photos! You want them to close their eyes and be able to imagine this product in their life.

P.S It’s really important that you know your target audience because otherwise, you’ll be writing about problems and benefits that they don’t know anything about. That isn’t compelling at all. Well, it will compel them to close their browser and find another business to purchase from.

This is the key to hiring a copywriter, I have the know-how to do extensive research on your target audience to write about topics they want answers to, and use the words they’re searching for.

Is your product multi-useful?

Consumers always want to be sure they are getting the most for their money, so if your product can be used in more than one way then you’ve hooked them! Here’s what I mean:

  • If you sell apparel, how can people wear items for multiple occasions, and seasons, or change the way they look?
  • If you sell products, can they use that product in an unconventional way that will make their life easier in another way?
  • Do people keep your products for years to come like Pampered Chef and Kitchenaide Mixers?

Usually, the price isn’t the issue – it’s whether or not the product is considered to be useful. Tell readers how useful your product is, and then get ready to see purchases increase.

You’re an expert in your industry, so give them some real-life advice

Give your readers real-life advice that applies to your industry/niche. Because you sell products in a specific industry people look to you as an expert, so provide them with some helpful advice that they need. This will make them trust you. Don’t forget to tell them what your favorite products are (that you don’t sell) and give them a few options they can find on your website too!

  • If you sell baby clothes, talk about overcoming common parenthood challenges.
  • If you sell beauty products then tell them how to clean their brushes to make sure their skin is clean, or talk about how nutrition contributes to healthy skin.
  • If you sell cars, tell them how to keep their car running well for a long time!

And, again – don’t give them fake advice. Be honest. Be genuine. People like genuine people.

Businesses that write blogs will create lasting relationships with their customers

The question isn’t whether or not writing blogs will help you build trust with your customers, its more about when are you going to get started. I’ve given you several examples that you can use today! Use the bullet points I’ve given you to create a great blog that will connect with your readers, and give them a reason to visit your site without being asked to buy something!

P.S Don’t forget to do some research on your target audience and look up some keywords to include.

If you’re realizing that writing blogs that are created for enjoyment and crafted to compel readers to purchase is a bit more time than you have to give to it, then it’s time to hire me as your copywriter.
