You started building your email list, now what?

Now that we’re on the same page about why you should be collecting emails (AKA building your email list), let’s talk about what you should do next.

If you missed the last blog post, go back and read it. 

If you’re a rebel and don’t want to, here’s the short version: the people subscribing to your email list are most likely to become customers because they are literally asking to hear from you, so spend time talking to them!

Before you start sending regular emails or newsletters to your email list, you want to create a welcome series. A welcome series tells the reader more about you and your brand, and educates them on what problem your business solves.

People are most engaged when they hit the “subscribe” button, so you want to begin nurturing that relationship the same day they subscribe. 

Here are the basics of a welcome series

A welcome series talks about the following elements of your business:

  1. Introduction: say hello and acknowledge that they subscribed to your emails
  2. Brand awareness: who are you, what do you do, how are you going to make your audiences’ life better, what’s your origin story? 
  3. Education: teach the reader something about your product or service
  4. Current Events: a seasonal specific or new offer you’re currently promoting
  5. Review: a shortened version of what they’ve learned so far, so they are eased into the regular cycle of emails/newsletters. Also, a great place to shine with social proof (add some testimonials)

If you aren’t quite ready for the full welcome series, at a minimum, you must have an individual automated welcome email that gets sent to new subscribers right after they subscribe.

Here’s my caveat

This is a VERY brief overview of what should be included in a welcome series, but it at least introduces you to the idea.
